Trump Welcomes Loved Ones of Injured National Guard Soldiers to the White House
President Donald Trump stated on the weekend that he has asked the family of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the White House.
He mentioned that he spoke to her parents and they were “devastated”.
Information on the Heartbreaking Incident
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a shooting on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.
Memorials across the state have taken place in their memory.
White House Invitation
The president said he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the parents of both individuals of the West Virginia Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” the president addressed the press. “And in the same way with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Community Reaction
Mourners came together over the weekend at Webster County high school in West Virginia to remember Sarah.
Both they had been serving with the state guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to assist public safety in Washington DC.
Honoring Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the type of pupil that educators hoped for. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that inspired those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of her alma mater, stated to the Associated Press. “She was kind, considerate and always willing to support those in need.”
Service details for Sarah are still being arranged.
Legal Steps and Government Adjustments
Authorities have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of murder and charges of violent assault while armed.
The event led the Trump administration to suspend refugee claims and temporarily stop providing visas to possessors of travel documents.
Condition of Wolfe
Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, began his service in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, per the AP.
He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey mentioned on television.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general told a news show that she planned to speak to Wolfe’s family.
Memory of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County High in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a MP with honor, as stated by the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had fortitude,” the governor addressed the gathering at the service. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
