The beloved police drama AC-12 is officially returning for its seventh season, confirmed by the BBC.

A brand new six-part season written by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast this spring, according to the network.

Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Her co-star added, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."

The previous season concluded in 2021 with a finale that drew in over 17 million viewers. Speculation about a new season have been circulating for some time, but official word only arrived recently.

Fresh Obstacles for The Team

Series seven begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by production details.

Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings remain working to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.

The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most delicate case to date."

Fresh Face and Intricate Plot

A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer known for busts of criminal networks, faces allegations of abusing his position to become a offender.

Line of Duty launched in 2012 and evolved into a highly successful television series of the last decade, attracting guest stars such as Lennie James.

The BBC haven't revealed when the upcoming series will hit screens.

The conclusion of series six brought the extended plot about the hunt for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and producers indicated at the moment there were no plans for additional seasons.

Nevertheless, the corporation confirmed on Tuesday that a seventh series is now in development.
