PSG Edges Marseille on Penalties to Claim Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the prestigious cup on 14 different times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the showdown between the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net early on.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital equaliser in the final seconds to send the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for PSG to complete a convincing penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last thirteen seasons.
