New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn noted that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “upbeat” during their latest talk.

“What reassures me, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn commented. “His family, they’re in good spirits and he will come through this without issue.”

It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where he has been listed as in critical but steady condition.

“Still unsure,” he added. “But I will say this, hearing him speak, he felt really upbeat. Furthermore, that puts my mind at ease, that he feels like that and he expresses himself so positively.”

New York police released surveillance images earlier this week of a man sought in the attack on the player. What prompted the attack is currently under review and officials stated it is unknown if Boyd was the intended victim. There were no additional victims were reported.

The incident occurred in the early morning on Sunday about halfway between MSG and the iconic square. Boyd, 29, was admitted to a local hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, as reported. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn said Boyd has been on his mind “a ton” since learning of the incident. The coach said that Boyd and his wife are new parents to a newborn.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he has a new baby,” Glenn remarked. “And I’m thinking about his wife, I’m thinking about his kid and I want to make sure that he’s OK. That was my main concern.
“A certain process is underway, that I won’t detail, but I am pleased that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, his first with the Jets, after being placed on injured reserve on 18 August with a shoulder injury that involved surgical repair.

He signed with New York as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was anticipated to become a significant contributor of an improved special teams group under Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during a training camp practice on August 2 and had to be helped off.

Boyd has remained around the team all season long while working his way back.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn stated. “I mean, he is a regular at our matches. He’s fully engaged. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of Texas University in the 2019 draft. He joined Arizona in 2023 and later was with the Texans later that season. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.6m with the Jets in the spring.
