Fans Call for Arrest of Individual Who Seized Ariana Grande
Devoted fans of Ariana Grande are urging that a person who leaped a barrier and seized the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good debut be detained or removed from Singapore.
A viral clip reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen pushing past media personnel and lunging at Grande while the cast made its way down a event pathway accompanied by onlookers.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the surprised performer away from Mr Wen, who was observed being led away of the event by security officers.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram recently that he was "free after being detained", though court documents revealed that he was scheduled to appear on the next day. It is not clear if he was faced legal action.
Pattern of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Controversial Figure", has invaded a celebrity gathering. His Instagram account includes videos of him disturbing other celebrity events, including rushing the platform at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in earlier this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last winter.
"Measures must be taken enforced against him as this is clearly a legal violation," stated an Instagram commenter, in a response to a video Mr Wen shared of his behavior.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user wrote.
Followers Express Concern Over the Star's Past Trauma
Numerous fans accused Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had discussed suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the end of her May 2017 show in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" said another response on Instagram.
Several supporters also criticised event staff at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while different individuals called for digital services to remove Mr Wen's content.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In videos spreading on the internet, Grande looked shocked when she was grabbed by the man. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen comforting her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has remained silent on the event, and the premiere activities continued without further issues.
Hundreds of supporters had gathered in a crowd of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good international premiere in a Singapore shopping center, including several who had waited for as long as eight hours before it commenced.
The movie, to be released on November 21, is the follow-up of a two-film adaptation of the well-known theatrical show Wicked, which revolves around the unexpected bond between two very different characters.
The musical itself is a derivative of the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the character Glinda Glinda, was decked out in a champagne pink sparkling outfit at the premiere while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a elegant ensemble embroidered with roses.
They were alongside co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of last year in the UK, and scored ten Academy Award nods, securing several for excellent wardrobe and artistic direction.
