Brian Eno Urges Support to Propel Together for Palestine Lullaby to UK Christmas No 1.
A campaign is aiming to send a cultural melody to the Christmas number one spot. The project aims to provide aid to communities in Gaza while also spotlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
A Possibility for Support and an "Surprise Victory"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a moment to support Palestinians over the Christmas period. He remarked the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“That would be amazing if that happened, yes,” he stated. “I wouldn't be completely disappointed if it fails to, holiday tracks are a unique phenomenon.”
Resilient Spirit of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the version of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's defiant core message.
“It occupies a profound significance for countless listeners,” Barghouti explained. “It’s basically saying that I would choose to perish with honor than live a life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we seek to lead a dignified life that we merit as a people.”
Recording Origins and Contributing Musicians
The single was laid down in the wake of a solidarity show held in the autumn. Initially planned to be captured during the live event, the rendition was cut from the show due to time constraints.
The diverse array of artists featured on Lullaby features a selection of acclaimed names from the industry. All took part in the September show, which successfully generated a significant sum for humanitarian aid.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was brought to life by a trio of talented individuals. The single features a combination of the heritage language with new English lyrics.
The team running the initiative have clarified that their goal is to raise as much as possible for a dedicated fund. These resources will be allocated to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an established charity.
“We haven't set a fixed goal,” a spokesperson commented. “We’ll go for the maximum achievable. Naturally, the greater the amount, the better. All proceeds are directed out to Gaza.”
The reality in the area was described as its profound destruction, with a vast majority of infrastructure said to be in ruins or severely impacted.
“Given that reality, a handful of millions doesn’t make a massive dent. But I think what does make a difference is primarily making this cause better known and demonstrating there’s another side to the story.”
The track is launching at the end of the week. Additionally, a complete film of the solidarity show will be made available for streaming on a digital service from later in the month.
