A Pair of Men Arrested Over Mobile Device Hidden in Commons to Reportedly Play Sex Noises At Prime Minister's Questions

Law enforcement have arrested two men related to a mobile phone discovered concealed within the parliamentary chamber, which was allegedly designed to emit inappropriate audio throughout the prime minister’s questions.

Finding and Investigation

This phone was located close to the government benches in the course of a routine sweep of the hall. Authorities suspect it was planned to disrupt the keynote weekly showdown between Keir Starmer and Kemi Badenoch in September.

A police representative commented, “Around mid-morning on that specific date, a mobile phone was found during a standard inspection of the House of Commons chamber.”

Arrests and Allegations

Enquiries suggested that the phone was purposely positioned in a spot with the aim of creating interference to proceedings in the chamber.

  • An individual in his 30s was arrested on that Friday on suspicion of attempting to deliberately cause a public nuisance.
  • A second person in his sixties was taken into custody on the following Tuesday on allegations of the same offence.
  • Both have been bailed to appear at a future time.

Precautions and Consequences

Increased security measures were introduced in the Commons after the phone was discovered. Sound-guided visits and guided tours were called off, and there was limited entry to the Commons chamber.

The House of Lords took the same decision to reduce access to the their debating area “as a precautionary measure.”

The spokesperson noted, “Investigations remain ongoing, and we continue to keep the parliamentary officials informed with our investigation.”

Gravity of the Incident

The event is being regarded as grave as it constitutes a major breach of parliamentary security. The phone was found while hundreds security staff based in the parliamentary area were on industrial action over pay and conditions.

As a result, the public were banned from the parliamentary estate. The union stated that the strike went ahead due to cutbacks in holiday time, stagnant pay, and an wage disparity based on race.
